The National Library of New Zealand

He Tohu and Precious workbooks

The National Library of New Zealand houses a collection of knowledge and resources available for public access and use. The National Library collects, connects and co-creates knowledge to empower New Zealand. Part of their contribution is facilitating tours and permanent exhibitions including He Tohu and Precious. We were tasked with creating two workbooks respectively, for students visiting the Library to keep them educated and engaged.

The work

We were tasked with creating two workbooks to guide school-age kids through the He Tohu and Precious exhibitions at The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa. The He Tohu exhibition displays the taonga of our nation and seeks to educate visitors about our past, present and future – while the Precious exhibition educates visitors on the role of libraries and museums, and celebrates the children who contributed their own precious items to be displayed.

The workbooks we created aim to teach children about the three documents that are the foundation for our country: He Whakaputanga, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Women’s Suffrage Petition, as well as, outlining how The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa cares for them. The taonga housed at The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa exhibitions and collections help us understand the past so we can better navigate the future.
